INDIA, Islamic Sultanates. Amirs of Multan. Damma (Silver, 13 mm, 0.47 g), circa AH 93/4-98/9 = AD 712-717. Stylized bust of the Amir to right. Rev. Stylized fire altar of three dots above a base; on the altar, 'Lillah' ('for Allah' in Kufic); around, SRI TAPANA[SA] ('Lord of the Sun' in Brahmi) and HA (in Brahmi). Fishman & Todd, M24.2 (this coin). Very rare. Struck from a somewhat worn obverse die, otherwise, very fine.

This is the first Islamic issue struck after the Arab conquest of Sind. While the conquerors added an Arabic inscription, they continued the tradition of depicting a bust of a Hindu ruler on their dammas for some time
